Back on the dry they were still coming to grips with winning the Winter Boutique Lottery. As with many of our Lottery Supporters the expectation of winning has always been second to the support the purchase of the lottery tickets provides to Coastguard and the great work carried out by the professional volunteers.
Having the winner living on Waiheke was an opportunity to lift the profile of the local Units fundraising for their replacement vessel. The current 8.5m Rayglass Protector has been a great servant but is almost 10 years old now and ready for a quieter life.
The Unit is still looking for $150-200k to complete the build project with naming rights still available.

2007 Coastguard Boutique Lottery - "Fish Tremble"
Julian Honiss of Wellington couldn’t believe his good fortune when he received a phone call in December from Bruce Reid (Chief Executive) to advise him he was the winner of the 2007 Coastguard Boutique Lottery. “Calling Julian to let him know he had won was made challenging as he was only able to be called at home, so by the time he had made it home from work I had called four or five times. This meant all the family was already in on it, but they managed to keep the secret until the call and needless to say Julian was ecstatic” says Reid. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets – and good luck with the Summer Lottery. Perhaps it will be your photo next time.
Terry Sampson, President of the Coastguard Wellington Unit hands
over the keys to Julian Honiss and congratulates him on his win.
